CHRISTOLOGY

Christology—Summary

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God and true man in one person forever. This means that He is true and complete God and true and complete man. As God he has existed forever, fellowshipped with God the Father and the Holy Spirit forever, and he created all things. The man Jesus was born, lived, died, arose, ascended to the Father, is the head of the church, mediator, high priest, advocate, to be worshipped, and is waiting to call his church to heaven. He is the only Savior. Believers trust him, watch him, fellowship with him, worship him, and follow him. Jesus Christ’s relation to believers emphasizes that he is mediator, priest, advocate, authority, leader, and protector. This topic of Bible doctrine is called Christology.

Christology—Basic

1. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the eternal God, a member of the trinity, and to be worshipped (Micah 5:2; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1-14; 8:58; 10:30; Romans 1:4; 10.9-13; John 20.28-29; Philippians 2.9-11; Hebrews 1.6, 8).

2. Jesus is his human name, Hebrew Jeshua, later form for Joshua (Matthew 1:21); Christ is his title, the anointed one, Messiah; and Lord indicates he is God (Luke 2:11 John 20.).

3. Jesus Christ became true man with human characteristics (John 1:1-14; Luke 1:35; John 4:6; Philippians 2:5-11). He was a descendent of David (Romans 1:3) and had a human mother (Luke 2:1-20), yet no sinful nature (Luke 1:35). He never sinned (Hebrews 4:15), and He fulfilled the Father’s will (John 6:38; 19:30). He died, arose, ascended (John 19-20).

4. He became man in order to solve the sin problem (John 1:29; 1 Timothy 1:15; 2:3-6) and restore God’s rule (Luke 1:32-33; 1 Corinthians 15:28). He is the only Savior (John 3:16-18; 14:6; 1 Timothy 2:5-6)

5. Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church (Colossians 1:18), mediator (1 Timothy 2:5), high priest (Hebrews 4:14-15), advocate (1 John 2:1), and is waiting to call his church to heaven (John 14:1-6),.

6. Jesus Christ is the believer's leader and object of faith dependence and service. (Hebrews 12.2; Galatians 2.20; Colossians 3.24).
